Melanie Chisholm, aka Sporty Spice, has been booked to perform at this year’s Melbourne Cup Carnival.
The popstar will bring her DJ set to the carnival’s new festival-inspired entertainment event “Palooza” during TAB Champions Stakes Day on November 5 at Flemington racecourse.
This will be the singer’s first visit Down Under in almost 25 years.
The 49-year-old enjoyed great success in Australia as a solo artist after the Spice Girls decided to go their separate ways in 2001.
Many of her singles reached the Top 10 charts in Australia including the disco track I Turn to You and a collaboration with TCL star Lisa Lopes, Never Be the Same Again.
She has since become an in-demand DJ, performing at Glastonbury in 2022 and across the party island of Ibiza in Spain earlier this year.
Mel C said she was looking forward to returning to Australia and kicking off her tour.
“It’s so good to be coming back to Australia – the atmosphere there is electric and I could not be happier to return after more than two decades,” she said in a statement.
“I’ve always been a big fan of racing and obviously love a music festival.
“To mix the two and perform at such an iconic Australian event is so exciting. It’s going to be an epic day and I can’t wait”.
Chisholm will be joined on the Palooza stage by English producer and songwriter Jax Jones and German DJ Topic.
Tickets to the festival are available from $295 and include food, drinks and general entry to the racecourse.
Mel C’s performance at Flemington will be her only Melbourne show before she heads off to play gigs in other major cities.
The tour dates are expected to be announced shortly.
The English singer-songwriter’s latest album Melanie C was released in 2021 and included the singles Who I am and Blame it on Me.
She also opened up about her life as a Spice Girl and experiences with an eating disorder in her 2022 memoir The Sporty One: My Life as a Spice Girl.
