It seemed like everything was going in the back of the net for both the Red Wings and San Jose Sharks two nights ago. The Sharks carried a 2-1 lead into the second period, before Detroit answered with goals from David Perron and Jake Walman in the middle stanza. Then, in the third period, Detroit piled on four more goals, and ended up running away with a 7-4 win.
Perron’s sixth goal of the season was part of a three-point night for the veteran, while Pius Suter, Dominik Kubalik and captain Dylan Larking each had two-point performances on Thursday. Joe Veleno, Filip Hronek and Moritz Seider also found the back of the net for the Wings.
The Blue Jackets are coming off a win on Thursday night win as well, back-to-back wins in fact, as they won a couple of high-scoring affairs with the Philadelphia Flyers and Montreal Canadiens. Those two victories have helped give some light the Columbus, who really struggled in the early going of the season. Coming into Saturday, the Jackets sit at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division was 13 points.
Last season, the Red Wings lost a pair of their three encounters with their former Central Division rivals, including the lone meeting in Columbus last November.
